Tips for Parents to Make Their Life Easier During Online Classes

At this point, everyone has just accepted online classes and work from home as the new normal. Since this is the only possible way of getting an education and continuing to work safely, we have also made our peace with it. At Meru, our teachers are parents too who are keeping up with this new teaching trend. They are embracing this new normal facing various challenges. But one thing that shouldn’t be a part of this new normal is a child’s online classes increasing the stress levels for you and them (as parents).

Are you wondering how’s that possible? Let us suggest some tips to make this stress-free experience a reality for you.

  1. Create a dedicated space

Ensure your child has a separate setup for their online classes. Having a different area from the one where they usually sleep, play games or eat creates an atmosphere that will work to motivate them.

Along with comfortable seating, this place must have all the thing they might need from study material, a charging port for laptop, to a good internet connection, writing tools and other things. This will not only make the children more concentrated on classes but also avoid any last-minute search frenzy for their books or pencils.

  1. Stick to a plan

With your child’s online classes and your work from home, things might get a little tricky. And that’s why preparing a schedule and following it will help everyone. For instance, a dedicated time slot for homework will ensure they are up to date with their school work. Along with that, you will not have to worry about helping them last minute with an unfinished assignment or project.

Do remember to incorporate sufficient breaks and some physical activity in your schedule as well.

  1. Everything’s good with a limit

Our lives have undoubtedly moved online. While online learning has its benefits, make sure that your children do not overindulge in it. Let them also study through physical books and learn through activities not being done online.

  1. You are not alone in this

Covid-19 sure came with a lot of problems, but there’s always a silver lining. This pandemic has presented us with time and better ways of being in touch with others (while practising social distancing). It’s a challenging situation, but you must understand there are others like you, other parents who are going through the same thing. So, talk to them. They might have advice about how to make online classes more comfortable and more productive. Share your experiences with them so that you can all learn and grow together.

  1. Be kind to yourself

Did not expect this? Nevertheless, this is very important. You will only be able to help your children if you are in the right place (spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally). We know you have been giving your best and will continue the same so give yourself some credit for it.

Recognise this as a learning experience. And allow yourself to work with your children so that both of you can benefit from it. We at Meru are thankful to parents who are understanding and are coping up with this change. We are glad that our students are doing their part well too. What do you think can be done more to reduce stress? Let us know.
