Reading recommendations-8th grade

Classroom resources are specially curated to impart knowledge to the students. And to compliment that we have some reading recommendations for you. Our list has some of the best books to read that’ll help you learn while you travel through the worlds of adventures, superheroes, ghosts, and scenic mountains. We have ensured to include the reading level of books such that it’s appropriate for the students of 8th grade.

  • Wonder (by R.J. Palacio) – This is the story of August Pullman, a 10-year-old boy with a facial deformity. Home-schooled earlier, August has now shifted to a regular school starting 5th grade. Take this journey along with August, where he tries to convince his classmates how he is just an ordinary boy, who eats ice-cream and plays Xbox. A fun read that will ensure you never again judge a book by its cover or a boy by his face.

  • The Graveyard Book (by Neil Gaiman) – Bod is like any other boy. The only difference is that he lives in a graveyard and is being raised by ghosts. And as a guardian, he has someone who is neither living nor dead. Living in a graveyard comes with its own set of challenges and silver lining. But outside, in the ordinary world, what waits for Bod is the same fate as was met by dead family.

  • Animal Farm (by George Orwell) – This story is set in a farm. The animals on the farm take control of it after being overworked and mistreated. The story has an underlying message which tends to connect the story of the farm animals and the humans to real-life incidents. However, there has been a lot of interpretations of the same, so this book will work beautifully to help children form opinions and linkages of their own.

  • Aru Shah and the End of Time (Roshani Chokshi) – Are you looking for your next favourite superhero (or supergirl)? Well, the 12-year-old Aru Shah, just might be it. She did unleash a demon from the Lamp of Bharata. But she has now left on a quest to save her mother and classmates. The only way she can do that is by finding reincarnations of the Pandava brothers. This is without any ounce of doubt, one of the best books to read for all adventure seekers out there.

  • The Blue Umbrella (by Ruskin Bond) – There is beauty in simplicity, and Ruskin Bond has captured it in its true essence. Follow this beautiful story of Binya and her favourite blue umbrella. Through this story, you’ll learn about Garhwal (where the story is set), a range of human emotions from jealousy, heroism, to kindness. Follow Binya’s heart-warming story to know what truly matters isn’t the worldly things.

Out there is an entire world waiting for you to be explored. So, what are you waiting for? Turn the page and embark on this journey.

Happy Reading!
