5+ Summer Vacation Activities For Students (2020)

In this day and age, parents have a hard time getting their kid(s) out of the house, especially during the summer months. Likewise, schools face a similar challenge in finding productive summer vacation activities for students. There is no denying that holidays are the time for the students to take a break from regular stressful studies and relax a bit. But, if these holidays progress into invoking boredom and laziness in children, they are good for nothing.

With televisions, computers, video games, and whatnot, children are losing on their necessary daily exercise during the summer holidays—which they otherwise receive on school days. It’s imperative to keep children’s minds occupied and active and, at the same time, essential to keep their legs running during long holidays to make sure they stay in good health. Ignoring this can show effects on children’s mental and physical development. But How? How do we ensure that? What are some excellent summer vacation activities for kids?

There are n-number of things to do during summer break. While a few activities involve going out, others can be enjoyed right at home. Summer holidays are the perfect time for kids to follow their interests and discover new passions. But, sometimes, even the most active student in the classroom runs short on ideas, so here are a few things for kids and parents to consider.

Summer Camps

Summer Camp

Children hardly show interest in going back to school or to a place that remotely resembles school. Contrary to popular assumptions, summer camps aren’t the institutions of academic education or extensions of school, but they are institutions of fun! Most of the summer camps focus on taking the students out into nature and try indulging them in extra-curricular activities, such as trekking, planting trees, adventure activities, etc. Furthermore, they even include indoor sports games like chess, badminton, table tennis, and more. These tasks and exercises help in teaching children the importance of teamwork, coordination, respect towards fellow candidates, and such skills.

At Meru International School- Summer camps comprise Design thinking, Robotics, and Sports for the well-being of the children. The Summer Camp 2020 at Meru International is designed to ensure that the interests of all the children are catered to and at the same time- the 21st century skills are also developed upon. Summer camps provide an excellent avenue for children to hone their 21st century skills such as experiential learning, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Art & Craft Workshops

Art & Craft
Art & craft is one of the best activities to do in summer vacation. Encouraging students to participate in arts and craft workshops/competitions tends to boost their creativity and imagination. They are the best platform for children to express themselves and experiment to create different things. Also, art and craft nurture the skill of innovation in students, thereby improving their thinking-out-of-the-box ability. Hence, indulging students with such activities promotes creativity and helps in discovering their hidden talents.

Cooking & Baking

Not the most exciting choice of activity of kids, but cooking is one of those things to do in summer vacation at home at which parents and children can bond. Today’s children rarely enter the kitchen, unless they crave ice cream or such sugary items. Nevertheless, cooking and baking can teach children precision and discipline—not to mention patience and values of hard work.

Read Books

Nowadays, children barely practise reading books. Reading is a scientifically proven healthy habit that improves not only vocabulary but also sophisticates the luxury for students to analyse words and form a story simultaneously in their minds. This helps in enhancing the imagination power, unlike Televisions which limit imagination by giving away everything—right from the video (Visual) to the audio. Upon developing a regular habit of reading a variety of books, irrespective of genre, one can increase his/her reading speed. For this to happen, children must be encouraged to visit libraries.

Take Up Sports

The growing popularity of computers, video games and televisions is making children very inactive and diminishing their interactive skills as well. Sports play a pivotal role in shaping young athletes and enhancing their physical and social skills. Physical sports, such as cricket, football, hockey, basketball, and more, help in installing obedience, punctuality, sportsman spirit, teamwork, and discipline in students.
